Aerial panorama

Switching from official DJI Fly app to Litchi unlocked a whole host on new features on my first-generation Mavic Mini. Aerial panorama is my current favourite, since you can set up drone in advance and then let it do its job autonomously. I then use Hugin to stitch photos into panorama, To display it properly and make it interactive I’m using awesome open-source viewer Pannellum. It even supports using mobile phone sensors to look around, which is nice party trick.

New website theme

After some years I decided to redesign the site using responsive theme. It’s also fully supporting Jekyll to simplify and automate generation of HTML code and helps to keep consistent look and feel of photo/video/bloag posts.

This theme is based on non-jekyllized Forty theme created by HTML5Up (see https://html5up.net/forty). I liked the feel of it and found an awesome fork on GitHub that added initial Jekyll support (see https://andrewbanchich.github.io/forty-jekyll-theme). In my fork I extended Jekyll support further to have different layputs for photo, video and blog posts and added photo gallery plugin. I also modified the look of it to match my idea better.

Source code of my customized and themed fork can be found on GitHub: https://github.com/tomorac/forty-jekyll-theme/tree/grajska.si

DIY powertank

Powerbank is made from surplus plastic toolbox and old car battery. Battery was not suitable for a car anymore, since it’s starting current dropped over time and became to weak to reliably start a car in winter months. But it still has plenty of capacity to power my telescope tracking mount, DSLR and laptop for several nights of shooting. It’s also really handy for off-the-grid camping to keep phones and other gadgets charged without emptying your original car battery.
